Use of Plain Language

The skills of individuals are an important part of health literacy, but health literacy is not only about the person’s skills. Professionals impact a person’s health literacy by making health information and services understandable and actionable. Unfortunately, health professionals often present information that is difficult for people to understand and make health care decisions.

One of the goals of OHLP is to improve health literacy competencies and practices. Therefore, it is essential that health care practitioners and health professions students acquire the health literacy knowledge, skills, and practices to provide health information in a manner appropriate to their audiences.
